CHANCELL-ING: A Town-Gown Partnership Like No Other

This month, I’ve invited a special guest to join me in writing this column. Josh Chapman was appointed as the mayor of Davis in January 2024, but I’ve known him for years through his service on the Davis City Council. In the spirit of partnership, we wanted to express our commitment to maintaining the strongest possible town-gown relationship between ��˽��̳�� Davis and the city, along with sharing what you can expect in the upcoming months.

Chancellor Gary S. May issued the following statement today (May 6):

��˽��̳�� Davis is committed to a safe and peaceful campus environment that respects our community’s right to free expression while maintaining our educational and research mission without disruption.

As of Monday, May 6 at 9:15 a.m., a group named ��˽��̳�� Davis Popular University for the Liberation of Palestine, or ��˽��̳��D PULP, began erecting at least 20 tents on the Quad, consistent with actions taken on campuses across the country.

Today marks the last day of fall quarter, and I’m looking forward to the holiday season and ringing in 2024. Our students had a busy finals week, and once again, I was happy to serve them a free meal at our annual Moonlight Breakfast. I value this chance to offer a study break and lend support and nourishment during a traditionally stressful time.
